In 2024, Exergie, under the leadership of CEO Chidumaga Unachukwu, was honored with the British Council's Business and Innovation Award in West Africa. This recognition celebrates Exergie's significant contributions to providing uninterrupted clean electricity across Nigeria and Sierra Leone, benefiting homes, businesses, communities, and government facilities. Chidumaga Unachukwu, who holds a master's degree in Renewable Energy Engineering from Brunel University London, attributes part of his success to the comprehensive education and resources he received during his time in the UK.

The British Council's Business and Innovation Award acknowledges UK alumni who have demonstrated exceptional achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders, thereby strengthening ties between the UK and Nigeria. Exergie's innovative approach to clean energy solutions exemplifies the impactful contributions recognized by this award.

In July 2022, Exergie, led by founder Chidumaga Unachukwu, was honored as one of the top five winners in the Orange Corners Innovation Fund (OCIF) Business Pitch Competition. This recognition granted Exergie access to a portion of the €120,000 start-up capital provided by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, structured as a 75% grant and a 25% loan.

The OCIF is an extension of the Orange Corners Incubation Programme, an initiative by the Kingdom of the Netherlands launched in Nigeria in 2019 and implemented by FATE Foundation. The programme supports young entrepreneurs with enterprise development knowledge, mentoring, market access, and funding to grow their businesses. Each cohort concludes with a pitch competition, where the top five start-ups are selected to receive seed funding to scale their ventures.
